Fuel Consumption

Hi All
I have just travelled from Brisbane to Townsville with my 3.2 Did pajero towing our caravan approx weight 2 ton and averaged 18.3 letres per 100 klm is that a good fuel average or not as we had a head wind most of the way and is our first real trip away towing the van.What are other getting towing ther vans?.

Hi Dave,
We tow our 2.5t boat up North a couple of times each year and average about 16.5 litres/100km with our NM DiD manual. I think a van would have more wind resistance so your figures would be about right then.

I get about the same as Sandgroper towing my Paramount caravan (probably about 2.2t loaded), but only if I drive my 3.2DiD NP auto in sports transmission mode with a view to maximising torque wherever possible. That means that the vehicle remains in 4th gear for quite long periods whilst cruising. Overall, the Paj does a great job as a caravan 'tractor'.
