  • 85 manual petrol carbie problems

    Hi,

last week a mechanic fixed my autochoke as engine used to splutter and had no power when cold BUT soon discovered when leaving garage that when changing gears engine speed rose 500 revs when clutch depressed when accelerating and wouldnt drop for several seconds unless forced to by dropping into higher gear.

Mechanic was leaving for holiday when I confronted him and he thought a diagphragm might be broken and had no time to look properly.

Is there anything a novice can do to fix?

Would it be cheaper to get a 2nd hand carbie?

Also, is it vital to have air duct hose connected between cannister and a/f?

And, if theres a small rust hole around where a hot air pipe enters a/f will it cause problems?
