  • How good is this oil? "Meets API CH-4/SJ"

    Non oil expert here.

If a diesel oil of a very known brand claims this how good is it?

    15W40 BTW

Also could you explain what this means?

    Thanks

Reading that it is suitable for my NS as I have no DPF and the EGR is blocked.

        Tell me I'm wrong. Learning

Can't tell until you give me the Jaso and a a ratings as well. API is only one set of specs you need to meet.

it should be ok but is not really quite enough info, it should have an acea rating which is the one it needs for emissions compliance ( different to dpf requirement) but the manual was allowed a much greater range of oil than the auto anyway.

                What brand is the oil?

                  Castrol GTX Diesel 15W40.

I have 10L here abd it seems fine to use in the manual but not in the auto because of the DPF.
I have no DPF so am thinking it should be fine.

No oil expert and just found an ACEA rating B3!

that is basically a modified RX super with a lower ash content and is a mineral oil ( albeit with a higher base stock oil than most mineral oils, it is almost a semi synthetic), some manufacturers would be tempted to list it as semi synthetic, i would be wary of using it for a 15000k service interval but it should be fine for 7500k.

it was originally listed as the least favoured alterrnative for the NS diesel manual

straight off the notes for the Manual ( not the auto)

Manual models fitted without a diesel particulate filter (DPF), may also use CASTROL EDGE 5W-30 A3/B4,CASTROL EDGE 5W-40 SN,CASTROL MAGNATEC DIESEL 15W-40 or CASTROL GTX DIESEL 15W-40

Not going 15000k with this one. Maybe 7500 as a k to oil change alinger if you know what I mean. May even be a 5k change. In 5k.
