Dash cluster lights ?

Hi all,

has anyone ever had the 2 wheel drive lights blow/fail and how hard was it to replace them ? I had one light working but it's just gone now as well and the "D" for drive light has gone also. I know it's not a biggie and everything still works fine but if it's not too hard to fix I'd like to do it.

I think every NH/NJ etc over 200,000kms has had this happen. I replaced mine awhile ago now but it's quite an easy job. You need to remove the shroud where you have your cruise control switch, fog light switch, hazards, from memory there are 4 screws. Once the screws are out you will be able to pull the shroud forward about 10cms (just enough to get you hand in) to unplug the cables for the switches. Once the shroud is out you will have access to the instrument cluster (4 screws, 2 either side). You will have to pull the cluster forward as before with the shroud as there are 4 large rectangular plugs behind at each corner to be unpluged. once the large plugs are undone you will be able to remove the cluster a bit more (there is an earth cable that needs to be unplugged as well.
once all thats done and out you will be able to see lots of black knobs on the reverse side of the instument cluster, these screw out with your fingers and the wedge type globe is sitting in the little black knob holder thing.

I suggest you change all the globes in one sitting as it's not fun pulling it all out again to change antoher that will blow in 2 weeks time

Yep easy job. To remove the shroud on my NH, there are two screws pointing up above the dash instruments, then another one on top of the shroud looking down from the windscreen. You need a stubby screw driver to get at this one.

You folks wouldn't happen to know what size/type/watt globes they are so I can grab em before I pull the dash. it's just the "D" for drive and the 2 that indicate that the car is in 2 wheel drive only. I guess it's because that these three lights are always lit pretty much.

From memory, they are T5 (5mm) 2 watt wedge globes.
Yes they do blow more than the others as they are always lit.

Change all four 4wd select lights as the new ones will be brighter.
As you can see some are T10 and T5 and I think this one is out of an NJ.

Hmmm, looking at that I don't see the spot where the "D" for drive light would be. I'll need to do that as well while I'm at it

The dash is upside-down. The ones marked, from top to bottom as you look at it now, are: 1,2,D,N,R,P.

Got a shock when I rang Mits spare parts, try $14 a globe. lol I tried repco and was happy at 60cents a globe.
