  • A question from a newbie

Hi I've just joined the forum. From NZ. just bought a 93 v6 pajero. seems to have an oil leak from somewhere above starter. Is there a fitting near there that could be leaking or is it likely to be from the sump gasket. Heads have been off and new gaskets fitted recently so no problems there. starter recntly been overhauled due to oil seeping into bushes brushes and windings. Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

From past experience I would say the rocker cover gaskets are leaking from the rear, but you mentioned that the heads have been off and I would presume they put new gaskets on. It would pay to check them again as they do have a tendency to leak on the starter motor.
    And welcome along!

      thanks

for the reply. I am at a loss to know where this oil is comming from. New rocker gaskets and covers are secure. the only thing I can think of is all this oil was there from before the heads came off and is still seeping down the side of the block.

        Newbie too

Welcome, I'm a newbie too. Can I ask if you are using oil or is it just that you've noticed on the block, or worse, on your driveway. I'd be cleaning it off the block and seeing if it reappears?? and checking the dip stick every day and every trip, If you're not all ready doing so.

Reason I ask about using oil is mine (93 3.0l V6) seems to be using it but can't see where it's going?????

it didn't seem to use any to start with and there was no real sign of oil on driveway just a bad smell everytime you stopped from driving it. It has used a little since so I will be keeping a close eye on it
