  • What is this at the back of the transfer case?

As the title says, I am wondering what this big rubber piece is at the back of the transfer case? Should it be supported by a cross member? I hope not as on mine it sits as the photo shows it. Perhaps it is a vibration damper?

This is quite funny because dad & I were under mine the other weekend changing the trans filter and we were wondering ourselves it has to be a vib damper
