  • Ticking noise from gearbox

    Hi All

My 97 NK 3.0L Pajero has a ticking noise coming from gearbox when in idle. Noise goes away when the clutch is depressed. Car drives fines and there appears to be no other probs. Am I right in suspecting a worn idler gear shaft. If it ends up needing a new box what type should I be trying to source.

Happens on alot of gearbox, and the 3ltrs were one of them. Something to do with gear chatter due to no load, was changed on the 3.5

Hi, Had the same problem with my NF ( same engine and box) when I bought it, so I had it repaired as I was going to be towing a van etc , they replaced all the bearings etc, $1.000 later all fixed with the same noise, they call it "roll over ".
I have done 40.000ks since and it still sounds the same , worse when cold,
      Goes away when clutch depressed.
      Cheers Des.

Clutch release bearing is a much cheaper first replacement, these acan become noisy after not long. I just put up with mine
