  • What rear shocks?

    Hi Guys
I tow a fairly heavy van 240Kg on ball including tow hitch and 2300kg all up. The vehicle has standard suspension all round & sits within 10mm of unladen height when loaded. I have noticed and feel the vehicle pitches in the rear when the van travel over un-even ground, Im wondering if better shocks to control this are around, and if so what ones do you guys reccommend.
    Thanks

    Hi Muzza.
I went for King springs & bilsteins.
A little expensive but overall a great off road/towing package.
    Regards.

I had Bilsteins fitted about 10 months ago - no towing until next year, but they'v been excellent both on and off road.

They're couple with TJM extra heavy duty 200kg progressive coils that gave about 45mm lift, which I believe are made by King to TJM's specs.

My situation is very similar to Muzza's - towing a heavy van with standard suspension.

Does anyone have advice about replacement shocks when new springs are not fitted? I'm not looking for lift.

You can get replacement springs that are heavy duty but standard height, Kings for example. I'd recommend you put the heavier ones in if towing regularly, along with either Koni or Bilstien shocks.
          Cheers, John.

            Thanks John

Do you know whether they stiffen up the ride much? I find it pretty firm already, especially over smallish bumps in bad bitumen surfaces.

            Cheers

I find the ride in mine has improved considerably, just with putting the springs in.(2" raised). Makes the car ride firmer and sit flatter in corners. Then again I prefer a Firm setup.
              Cheers, John.

Bilsteins - just finishing my 6 month trip around Australia soon - on dirt roads this setup is brilliant.

Thanks for the replies, here my finding
4wd shops , dont know crap except for fit the biggest and most expensive and dont worry about the ride

I contacted Monroe and discussed the issue with them, I have installed Monroe Magnum on the rear only

                    Heres the results.
With no van on improvement in handling with only a slight degrade and ride
With van on Good improvement in nose tail pitch.
                    I'm happy
