As far as i know, no aussie spec'd nm/np's were avaliable with the rear difflock.

      Hi 6G74,

check your owner's manual, it shows that there is a rear diff lock. But whether it comes with the car or as an option, I am still trying to find out.

If you ever come across this info, do drop me a private mail. Thanks

I was told by my ARB that the NM/NP rear diff was not strong enough to handle a rear locker. Kept breaking under R&D so they stopped.

But then again if the manual says there's a factory one.........

A cached link on Google to the old Pajero forum that says........."It's the same unit as on NM/NP torsen LSD with pneumatic diff lock. Which of course was never available in Aus."

Im sure I've seen these advertised in 4wdmonthly (ARB but Im not so sure now) I was offerred one for my NM about 12mths ago and was advised to fit it to the front. Didnt have the money at the time so didnt buy it. I believe it was a mitsu item, perhaps this might help.

The NM/NP never had a rear diff lock in Australia, it was available in many other countries though including New Zealand, how Mitsubishi work this out nobody knows.

As to the diff not being strong enough and ARB R&D stopping development, this sounds like bull dust. There was plenty of talk a couple of years ago on the front diff lock by ARB, there was never any talk of any R&D on a rear diff lock it was always the front.

On the strength it is no weaker than a Toyota or Nissan diff, some ARB people only know 2 makes and anything else couldn't possibly be as good as these, this is without any technical explanation though. Truth be known the Toyota diffs are probably the weakest of all.

It can't be further from the truth. NM/NP rear diff is about as strong as it can be this side of commercial trucks, 9.5" R&P, 36.5mm 34 spline axle shafts. Stronger then LC 100 and monstrous comparing to say Prado or HighLux

I have a nj - so my manual doesnt help... But it does talk about optional seat heaters, mirror heaters, mirror retractors, and lsd / difflock combination for the rear.... non of which were avaliable in aus.

As far as i know, NL (2000) were the last to see a factory fitted difflock in aus until now.

                  Hi All,

Here is what I got on my Pajero NP 2005

                  1. ARB Front Locker RD110
                  2. ARB Sahara Bar
                  3. Warn XD9000i Winch
                  4. OME Lift Kit Hard Springs
                  5. 32x9.5x16 Simex Extreme Trekker ( For offroad Use)
                  6. 275x70xR16 Silverstone MT117 EX (For Mild Offroad Use)
                  7. 265x65xR17 Yokohama Geolander AT (Road Use)

I am looking at the Mitsubishi Original Rear Differential Lock reason is that there is no locker for the Pajero NM or NP. ARB did not want to produce it.

I am trying to get the part numbers for the Rear differential Lock and also the pricing. I will let you all know once I can get hold of the information.

                  cheers

Taking a guess here, but i would say the NS diff's are the same, if so you that would be simple affair to price

I am not too sure if the NS and NP/NM models are the same. I was hoping that is so. Well wonder how much it would costs to get the Rear diff lock.

They are the same but I would suggest it would cost several thousand dollars as a spare part.

I have heard of people importing the diff centres from Japan from wrecks and then sorting out their own compressor and control arrangement (factory one uses yet another control module or computer to operate it).

I have a South African spec 2003 LWB DiD GLS (would be NP in Aussie) with a rear diff lock. The rear diff is a Torsen LSD that can be locked completely and is an absolute beauty.

In South Africa the GLS had the rear diff lock from introduction in 2000 until 2003 when it lost it to traction control. The GLX had the rear diff lock until the Gen 3 was replaced by the Gen 4.

I will see if I can get part numbers.

Gen 3 Rear Diff Lock Part Numbers

Here are the numbers that I have been able to find. I hope they are correct

                              V78W (3200D-TURBO/LONG WAGON)
Carrier Assy, Rear Diff 3.917:1 (Option Code Diff Lock) Part Number: MR508781

                              V75W (3500/LONG WAGON)
Carrier Assy, Rear Diff 4.3:1 (Option Code Diff Lock) Part Number:MR508779

Other bits that are part of the system are:
Air Pump, Rear Diff Lock: MR453610
Control Unit, Inter Diff Lock: MR305675

I would imagine that it would be prohibitively expensive to source new parts. Breakers yards would be the way to go. I know of one breakers yard here in South Africa that specialises in Pajero spares.
