DPF burnoff smell

How would you blokes describe the odour emitted by the DPF whilst it is self cleansing .A minute or two before arriving home this arvo the fuel consumption went up ( as it occassionally will do) to about 17 and I noticed a very strong/ rank oily exhaust type of smell when I pulled up in my garage . I did not notice any change in the exhaust emissions but I was not really looking at the time.

Yep, I'd gp with that!

It smells like something very stinky is burning at a very high temp.
I've noticed it a couple of times when i get home from work, about an 8km trip, 3/4 of which is at about 80ks...
I haven't noticed a change in fuel consumtion though.....

I had never noticed the smell before except maybe once within the first 200km after driving home from the dealership and put it down to new engine bay /exhaust smells following the maiden voyage. Hopefully the smell will be regular occurence by the sound of it.
