  • Auto Trans Oil

    Hi Guys,

Had the auto trans oil changed this week.

Only on 55,418km, but with the heavy towing, thought it was good insurance.

The MM mechanic feedback was that the "oil looked clean and fine". So probably an overkill, but how can you tell with it fully sealed and no dipstick??

Anyway, am thinking we could probably do it in 65,000 to 70,000km next time...

    What do you think?

No way would we leave it 150,000km as MM has in the book!

Any feedback from others? Who's had it done at how many kms?

    Cheers,
    Sally

Let mine go to 150k between last change, it was playing up bad though. New fluid fixed all.

In the book it calls for it at 195,000km's unless under severe conditions, towing being one of those. Under those situations it calls for it at 90,000km intervals. My car is currently at 94,500km's and I am going to get it done at my interim 97,500km service as I have been doing some severe 4wding and would like the peace of mind.

        Thanks guys,

        What oil do you use?

Some ARB stores say LS140 Valvoline, others and MM say LS90. Suppose it somes down to the type of driving you do?

As long as they are SAE-90, I presume most would be suitable?

        Cheers,
        Sally

          Hi sally

SAE-90 is diff oil not for the auto. From memory the auto fluid is some special MM stuff Dia-Queen PA

just remember NT and NS use different spec trans fluid. Also I regularly go 200000 k using full synthetic auto trans fluid in my NJ , but I do get it tested .

              p.s. And i tow A LOT.

                Thanks guys...have confused myself again!

Meant to be asking about the rear diff oil not the auto trans oil.

Dave, yeah, that's what they used for our auto - at $255! It's exxy stuff!

What diff oil do you guys use and what spec?

                Thanks,

As much as people will tell you otherwise it's a diff. No LSD or torsen. Open diff.

                        Thanks guys,

                        What about this Valvoline product?
                        http://www.valvoline.com.au/vgn-ext-...004a373795RCRD

                        Above is what MM use.

Interesting how ARB have differing opinions. Suppose it depends what sort of driving you do.
