  • Long term Chip users

Hi guys. Asking opinions from long term power chip users.
The NW Pajero is ok for most driving, but I am coming from a Diesel X5, that had 200kw and 585mn, and I miss the sharpness of power, and effortless towing. So I am considering installing a chip, and after reading a couple of threads, they seem like a good idea.

So what are the long term effects of using these chips. Reliability, engine wear, and anything else you think is important to know.
Thanks for your advice in advance.

          Hi,

Had our DP Chip in since Jan 2010 (Nov 09 build). Ha ve don over 50,000km with it.

No problems whatsoever to report. Very happy with the car's performance and extra grunt.

Makes a big difference for towing and acceleration.

With a 6 year warrranty, you are pretty well covered!

No hesitation in recommending DP Chip.

          Cheers,
          Sally

I run chipit chip, have done for 5 years and over 110,000kms.

I had a small problem after around 80,000kms trouble free, Tony was able to isolate the cause as a earth connection on a crimp that I did for install for 12volt power.

So the after sales service from Tony at SPV industries "Automotive engineering division" ([email protected]) has been awesome and would recommend Tony as an ex diesel fitter who thinks out side the circle, specialises in Denso common rail systems and knows the chipit products inside out.

                Hi,

I've been running a No Limits chip for over 85,000km now, have had zero problems. Initially I bought it just to use when towing but the extra response and power are too addictive. Only downside is you gain a smoke screen mode, mainly when only low power has been used for a while.

With unlimited money I'd go a ChipIt with an EGT sensor, but bang for buck can't beat the No Limits.

                Cheers,
                Karl

                    CHips

Weill i have been running chip in my ns for 7 odd years now 250,000 ks later still going

chipit dps215 old chip rail chip works well
chipit dom 1 replaced the dps 215 rail chip + boost works very well easy to change tunes without laptop and can be dyno tuned if you really want
Dom 2 Injector tunning module also works well same setup as DOM 1 in terms of tuning

And the beast of the Chips the DOM 3 you will be amazed and have no rear rubber left on your rig ask others on the forum who have it fitted tunes both rail injector and boost. wouldn't run anything else

i was saying holly all the way home after i installed it

taking off at the lights in rear wheel drive wet weather is almost imposible traction control is unable to do anything lol

Jury is still out for me with my chipit Dom Mk1 and my dealings with robert at chip tuning.

I was never told about the Dom Mk3 when ordering my chip and EGT controller back in June/July. Didn't even now it existed or there were 2 seperate companies/websites. I only ever came accross chipit's site at the time, which didn't have the Dom Mk3 up yet and contacted robert through here thinking it was all the same. Then found out after i got my chip that the Mk3 was around, which makes alot more sense to me in its tuning function/ability by not just increasing rail/fuel pump and boost pressure. Would have been nice to be told of the option's by robert when ordering/dicussing chips....

Initially on first week or 2 of installation, fuel eco was good. Also noticed at the time dash fuel readout was now under reading by along way compared to pre chip install. All good though this didn't bother me as i only ever used figures from fill at the pump and k's done anyway. But after a couple of weeks dash read out jumped by quite alot, identical driving conditions/habbits etc and can't workout why... something changed, Fuel eco at the pump is up too. Have tried a few things like disconnecting battery overnight, drive car with chip disconnected for a few days to re-learn driving habbits, reconnect chip but still the same. Veichle also has EGR block, 3" exh.

I also get a check engine light "on" for about 24hrs after changing chip tunes which i haven't heard of anyone else experiencing....

The Turbo dump/front pipe i bought off Robert for a premium, ie no discount when buying the chip like normal, as it was supposed to be a non dpf-delete type pipe to suit my NT as it doesn't have a DPF and therfore more expensive for some reason... Didn't fit and required me to have it modded at my expense by an exh shop.

Paj drives fine and that is an improvement over before. Otherside of it leaves me confused though, especially when my 2.5t + high roof transit style van with the aero dynamics of a house brick gets better fuel eco than the paj....

Have Steinbauer chip for 3 years.
                        No trouble with it.

Supported by Dieselcare, but getting it re-tuned anywhere else has the risk of the ability of the mechanic/techo. In Adelaide it's Hitech Diesel, and 2 years ago they'd just got the programmer and sw, so were a bit green at that time. Not sure about now. Hopefully have had plenty of practice!

Biggest issue with Steinbauer is that the amount of boost the chip provides is controlled by the throttle position sensor (accelerator pedal).
This is fine until you use the cruise control when you're not pressing the pedal - hence no boost. Chip is effectively off, so no benefit at all under cruise.

Best advice I have, with whatever you get, is to check that the local shop is capable of re-tuning /supporting the product well.

The other option is to get the factory ECU re-programmed. I don't know how this cost compares though.

                              Untrue.

The dealer has to produce in writing, that the actual chip has directly caused the failure.

To my knowledge, hasn't been done to date!

Don't the the dealer frighten you! It's like when they say servicing at anyone else will void your warranty. Not so!

Our DP Chip has a 6 year warranty anyway, 1 more year than the MM warranty. No worries there.

Our MM dealer actually recommended the chip and we get it serviced there, so no removal each time for us and absolutely no problems!

                              Cheers,
